Remove Weebly

Post by Edward572 » Thu Nov 20, 2014 9:38 pm

Back in March, BlueHost – one of the leading web hosting providers in the world – added Weebly as a much awaited site builder to it’s list of features provided with your hosting package. Weebly is very easy to use for non-technical business owners looking to set up a new website without having to pay for a professional web designer or developer.

Weebly is fairly intuitive. It gives you a wide range of template sites to choose from, allowing you to set up a professional looking site in minutes. What’s not intuitive however, is if you want to remove it from your website if you decide you want to try a different site builder. BlueHost’s control panel for Weebly currently has no tools for uninstalling a Weebly site and the coding that it installs onto your hosting account overrides any new Content Management System that is installed – even WordPress. For you Googlers out there, there is no current support documentation for how to remove a Weebly site either. That’s why we figured it out, and decided to share it with the world!

For any user that does not understand code, we highly suggest you refer to the BlueHost support team, because this involves editing a file that is very important to the way your hosting account functions. For others of you who are comfortable editing code like us, here are the instructions:

Log in to your hosting account through an FTP.
Navigate to the root directory of the site you wish to remove.
    Rename or delete index.html.
Open the .htaccess file in an editor.
Delete everything between #begin weebly and #end weebly, and save the file.

This is all that’s needed to remove the site. Seems so easy after all that beating your head against a wall doesn’t it? It’s pretty impressive that BlueHost hasn’t added this feature yet seeing as it’s been available for about 8 months and Weebly’s main services have a solution for this already through a delete button on the main site list. We hope that this information will help others out there who are scratching their heads like we were!

Also, always keep in mind that if you want a truly professional site, the best way to do so is to grow your business using what you can afford, and start a budget as soon as you have the income towards working with professionals to improve your online presence. As nice as site builder tools like this sound, this is not a solution meant for a company-branded site. Just as you have the ability to use any of their themes, so does everyone else who uses this service – and sooner or later your users will catch on that more than one site has the same theme as you do. Just like a tax professional come tax season, professional website designers know the ins and outs of not only what your site looks like, but the best techniques on how it should look in the back-end to ensure your best chances of customer leads.
